It was Holloween night in Beaverton Oregon 1989 just past 9:00pm. Two young fifth and sixth graders named Chris Losertin and Randy his little brother were out trick or treating. They had each filled half of a pillow case with candy, their night should have been coming to an end… when Randy said, “one more street, and we’ll go home and eat this candy”. The first few houses were typical bite size candy and a pumpkin resting on the porch but the fourth house up on the right seemed very out of place and looked as if it was only lit with one or two candles inside the home. Chris dared Randy to knock on the door, shivering with fear and the cold weather, he knocked. After a three minute pause it was like the door just popped open, both of the young boys stood there frozen. “Come in” said a very creepy and disturbing voice. Both of the boys turned and ran, Randy was so scared he dropped his bag of candy on the doorstep, and made an eleven minute dash to safety. Their father asked, “what’s the matter you two”? Both out of breath they answered telling their father of the events they had just survived. Their father told them not to worry and we’ll get the candy tomorrow if its where you left it. Neither boy could sleep a wink that night and the rest they did get was plagued with nightmares of the old man’s face.
The morning started with a bowl of cereal and the boys father said jump in the pickup and you can show me where you were last night. It was only about four minutes just over a mile from the boys home, “Turn left” they shouted pointing at the house. The place was abandoned and looked totally uninhabited, “are you sure this is it” their father asked as all three walked towards the front porch. The door was bolted shut and all windows covered with ply wood. “Theres no way any one lives here” Their Dad said out loud, the boys protested that this is where they were. Exploring the perimeter of the run down place they found a stairway in back slightly hiden by a fall tree. “you two stay here, I’m going in.” Not even thirty seconds and their dad was running out yelling to get the pickup. The tires screeched as they drove away. Arriving at home the boys wanted to know what their dad had seen, with tears in his eyes he showed them the baby blue pillow case that Randy had dropped the night before. One word in blood was painted on the cloth. It read “DIE.”
The police were called and responded to the scene but after thorough examination concluded that no one had been in the home in at least fifteen years. An older neighbor saw the police and walked over to see what they were doing. The police told her briefly what had happened and with a gasp she said “the last people that lived their was an older couple in their eighties, but both died from a murder\suicide ten or fifteen years ago, it was their 60th anniversary. And as far as i know no one has lived there since.” The events of this true story have never been explained and the abandoned house still rots quietly, but once in a while you will see a candle glowing through the cracks in the boards that hold it up.
